MEET OUR CLINICIANS

Azubike Aliche, LICSW, LCSW-C, CPC.

Power Counseling PLLC

At Power Counseling PLLC, you get to choose one of six talented and well-trained clinicians. We are all committed to resolving the issues that you bring to the therapy room, satisfactorily. We provide topnotch psychotherapy to individuals, couples, families and groups. Our primary therapy modality is cognitive-behavioral therapy, but we also use solution focused therapy a lot. We have offices in Washington DC and Waldorf MD, but we are licensed to practice in Washington DC, Maryland, New Jersy and Virginia. Dr. Aliche offers clinical supervision for clinicians.

I believe that people can change, and that therapy is about assisting clients with what they need to change, so that they can live healthily and achieve their life goals. I assist our clients to attain self-exploration, resilience, empathy, and emotional empowerment. I firmly believe in the inherent inner powers of everyone to heal.  I believe that everyone possesses the necessary internal resources to overcome emotional difficulty and flourish in life. This belief guides my approach to therapy. My goal is to provide a holistic, solution-focused, empathy-driven, and emotionally empowering therapy approach. As necessary, I educate and guide my clients to use internal and external resources available to them to heal.  I work to empower clients to make decisions and take actions that align with their values and aspirations.

In the last 18 years, since I have been a mental health clinician, I have helped thousands of people address their problems, that include mood disorders, anxiety, and relationship difficulties. My dominant modality for working with clients had been cognitive-behavioral and systems approaches. Recently, I have taken steps to update my knowledge and skills for work with clients who deal with trauma and other hard to treat conditions. To this end, I have received trauma-informed training in Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART).

With me, the initial assessment session focuses on all aspects of the client’s life, ensuring that we take a full history, and that no challenging area is left unaddressed. Subsequently, in partnership with the client, we identify and implement effective solutions to their challenges. Focusing on their strengths, we work on issues that can pose obstacles to creating positive change. The goal is to encourage clients to view challenges as opportunities for growth and learning. This laser-focus on the solution to the issues that bring a client to therapy does not compromise my commitment to using the cognitive-behavioral therapy approach to our work.

My work with clients (I work primarily with adolescents and adults) also includes helping them with regulating their emotions. You can call it emotional empowerment. Emotion regulation and calming skills enable the client to better navigate life's ups and downs and to make informed decisions that lead to healthier and more fulfilling outcomes. It also helps to effectively manage the important relationships in their lives.

dyanne dunlap, lmsw

TRAUMA RESOLUTION THERAPIST

Power Counseling PLLC

Hi, my name is Dyanne. I entered therapeutic practice in 2000 as a childhood sexual assault survivor. As a young adult, I also experienced domestic violence in a relationship. I learned I married my mother, meaning I am attracted to violent people. Therapy is learning; it’s gaining clarity of what happened to you and learning how to shift to a healthier you. Now, as an older adult, I am better able to understand how valuable domestic violence groups, individual therapy sessions, Bible studies, and love from family and friends have supported my healing journey. Learn, heal, and grow! I have the courage and knowledge base to support you in processing unresolved emotional pain to start living a life of mental and emotional wellness!

As a therapist, I have 24 years of experience in the mental health field. I am a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Work. My mission is to help you identify goals, focus on your future, and empower you to succeed. As a trauma survivor, I naturally relate to others. My approach is to empower and encourage you to be the best version of yourself. I have worked in a variety of settings, including mental health agencies, residential centers, and psychiatric hospitals. I work primarily with adults.
